Meals on Wheels

Deacon Don recently met with Leigh Trippe, the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle, an Emmanuel Mission Partner. Meals on Wheels are "neighbors helping neighbors, one meal at a time." The UVa Hospital prepares, cooks, and packs the food at the Kluge Rehab Center on Ivy Road. Volunteers come to pick up the food and deliver to 262 clients each day, five days a week. The MoW clients are homebound, and can not prepare their own meals.

Leigh Trippe mentioned the several volunteer opportunities at MoW: as a regular route deliverer of meals generally once a week throughout the county; as a substitute driver (18+) or a holiday season driver; or be a meal packer at the Kluge Center which involves a couple of hours one day a week beginning at 9:30. MoW volunteers can be individual, families or small groups 6-8. Some choose to adopt a route of weekly service.

Emmanuel is proud to partner with Meals on Wheels, an organization that provides food and daily social contact to members of our community.
