The Rev. Peter M. Carey, Associate Rector
Born in Vermont, and having served as a chaplain, teacher, and coach at independent schools, Peter studied for the priesthood at Virginia Theological Seminary, where he was blessed to encounter the full range of our Anglican Communion in all its various backgrounds, biblical and theological views, and liturgical forms. He worked at an extremely dynamic, loving, and diverse church in seminary, Grace Church, Silver Spring, MD.
After seminary, Peter served as the Head Chaplain at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond where he taught religious studies, led chapel for each division of the school, served on the diversity committee, the executive committee, the safe schools committee and the guidance committee. Peter had a great time ministering in this active and dynamic community of 900 girls, their families, and dozens of faculty and staff.
In 2009 Peter prayerfully and joyfully accepted a call to become the Associate Rector at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, VA. At Emmanuel, he oversees the Christian Formation programs for all ages, Adult Forum, Sunday School, Youth, Mens and Women’s Bible Study Groups, Revised Coffee Lectionary Group and other special programs. Peter also reaches and leads worship, offers pastoral care, and participates in the leadership and governance of Emmanuel with lay leaders and with the Rector, the Rev. Chuck Mullaly.
